COLOR DAYS!!! YELLOW: Day 3

Bananas.
Just kidding, I have something else in mind. I'm taking you waaaaaaaay back! TO THE DAYS OF SESAME STREET! Today is  Y for......... Big Bird!.....wha?
I'm not really a fan of his. Actually Big Bird kinda' scares me a bit.
Those eyes....
But he is yellow and he is part of a good children's show. Except in that one movie where he was blue and proceeded to sing the most soul-killing song in the history of children's cinema.
"Bluebird of Happiness," my a-
Let's get back on track shall we? So here we go with another pencil to Pse creation:

This was surprisingly very easy to do and finish. I thought it would take me hours! There you have it, one Big Bird complete with alien legs (I seriously hate and am grossed out by his legs). Well goodbye yellow!!! This one went really fast..oh well onto the next! Leave comments and stuff!!

Next color: BLUE

COLOR DAYS!!! YELLOW: Day 2

It's day 2 here on the yellow brick road and I decided to go the old route and stick with my love of comic books. Why? Because they're awesome. Also, do you just want to see me draw pictures of lemons and bananas all day?

You need stimulant as much as I do, therefore I try to draw things that will keep my creative attention.
What yellow character did I decide to go with for day 2? Wolverine!

Nowadays ol' Logan's costume has gone through many needed reboots, but none is more famous than that bright yellow monstrosity that he donned in the beginning, proving Professor X was indeed a cruel master.
Keep laughing, bub....you gotta' sleep sometime...

Oh Wolverine, how the HECK did you STILL manage to look awesome in THAT costume? On normal circumstances it's completely ridiculous!

Nevertheless, Wolverine is still a total badass.
As this picture cannot tell you.

COLOR DAYS!!! YELLOW: Day 1

Yellow!!! I like yellow, it's one of my favorite colors:) I decided to do another dress for the first day to kick things off (boy these posts are getting shorter and shorter...) so here it is:
I like drawing dresses, especially ones moving. There's not much else to say about it.. Yeah.

COLOR DAYS!!! RED: Day AWESOME

With this the last day I am going to have fun. And what better fun than to draw my favorite comic book character (it's a tie with Batman) Hellboy!!
Mike Mignola is a boss. He, also, is my favorite artist (one below Ronnie del Carmen and Bruce Timm). His comics are chock full of folklore, mythological, and even fairytale awesomeness that he so often spins into alluring new tales, making him even more awesome. For those of you that don't know me, I'm a folklore, mythology, fairytale junkie and Hellboy is like my crack fix. Here's my tribute to him:

UGH!!!! IT'S FUZZY AGAIN!!! D: I really need to see what's going on.... (As usual, drawn first, then colored in Pse). Oh wait! Ii fixed it! Not really....
Anyway, this was soooooooo fun! I only wish I spent more time on it, but that's what I get for starting late and then going to Kemah. I had the idea to make him trying to get through Wonderland for some reason. I don't know why. It was just fun to draw a clingy Cheshire Cat and Hellboy.
I will upload another pic to this post later, but for now, bask in my accomplishment:) JK, leave comments for me please!

Say goodbye to RED folks! Tomorrow is the start of....YELLOW!

Slight Detour Today

At Kemah having fun. Post will be late!

COLOR DAYS!!! RED: Day 2

I want to keep practicing my people so I decided to draw one for today with, of course, a red dress. I gotta' keep the theme up somehow. I love drawing clothing. Not really, I just like drawing the wrinkles. I don't know why....I just do. So here I go:
I've had this idea in my head for a good year now, but I finally did it!  It was originally something for me to embroider (and idea I'm still going with), so I finally put it on paper which was then put into the computer and colored. To be honest, I didn't know what I was doing with this one coloring-wise. I just kind of muddled around with the eraser tool and did the dress.Yay? I think it looks good enough. Here's a close up:
And a lower res one too:
My line work is really crappy on this because, stupid me, I drew it near the top of my page in my sketchbook and so all I originally had was this:
Well crap....
So I had to improvise somehow with zooming in and zooming out because I made this one 18''x24''. So I'm sorry about the mess of lines that stop and start.
Comment below. Thanks!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHELSEA!!

Today is also my best friend's birthday. Naturally, I made her a card:
It's a long story. A funny one though. Don't worry I made her an actual one:

Happy birthday buddy. Go do something!

COLOR DAYS!!! RED: Day 1

Hello, hello again! We moved onto our next victim!: RED. Red brings to mind strength, rage, and fire, so naturally I chose to kick off the new "week" with a dragon. I don't feel like waxing funny that much today so here's a picture and stuff:
Click for clearer image

Don't know why they keep showing up blurry...probably need to change the resolution. Anyways, I drew it all by myself! By that I mean I didn't reference anything. Yay me and my imagination! I personally thank the dragon book I used to check out literally ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME when I was little. Those drawings in there were amazing. I need to find that book again...
Leave comments and stuff. Money is good too.

COLOR DAYS!!! GREEN: Day 3

I didn't forget you guys!! I was just late! So, today's the last day for green and I got a good way to go out in a bang. This is a good one, one of my personal favorites! Today, is Poison Ivy, the femme fatale from Batman! Poison Ivy is a staple for the Bat villain family and has had many looks depending on which artist is on board.
Bruce Timm

Jim Lee

Tim Sale

But my all time favorite version is by Ronnie del Carmen. He is, by far, my  number one favorite artist ever!!

He is a master of illustration and has worked with PIXAR on films such as Finding Nemo and Up. His Ivy is similar to Timm's (also one of my favorite artists), both of them having shaped my vision of her.
I started like I did before: First came the drawing which I scanned in

Which were then taken into Photoshop Elements and colored. Carefully this time. Voila!
*Note: Please click for clearer picture

The first one I used a reference photo because I ruined my original pose I was going to go with and decided to toss it. The second was from the noggin'. I loved how these turned out. I really do. Poison Ivy is a great character and, as seen in the second one, you really can't avoid NOT drawing her without clothing. She's just like that. Leave comments below!

COMING UP: RED

COLOR DAYS!!! GREEN: Day 2

TODAY WE DRAW THE GREEN LANTERN!!! Well, I do. For those of you that are comic book illiterate, which is about all of you, there have actually been many different Green Lanterns. I however chose to go with John Stewart not only because he's a badass (and also fits into the theme), but also because if my brother was a superhero, he'd be him. Green Lantern is also my brother's favorite (I forget which), and I feel like he and John are kinda interchangeable.
Pictured: Pure awesomeness.
It wasn't until later I realized that this particular Lantern's costume had less green than I originally thought, but that was a good thing. I needed this. So here's what I got:

Yes, his head is messed up.
Both were coloered in Pse. I drew these with pencil first, went over with ink and then scanned the original drawings into the computer.
I'm so glad I got this posted up, even if it is 11:00! Enjoy! Leave comments below! I would like to improve!

WHY DOES THIS KEEP HAPPENING!?

Okay, look. I'm going to be out AGAIN today for a while from about 9:45 to Lord knows when... Not happy about where I have to go, but whatever. Today's post may be late, so I'm just sayin' if it gets after 5 and you don't see anything on here, I hate you all with a buring passion.
Just kidding. You guys are cool. But yeah, I'm willing to stay up for today so there is still hope! Until then.....pray for me.....
It's going to be a long, long, long day...

COLOR DAYS!: Green, Day 1

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY!!! WE FINALLY GOT TO COLOR!! Why am I so happy for this seemingly pointless three day period? I need the practice. I SUCK with color. Absolutely hopeless. I have no problem drawing something, but coloring it? I tend to freak.
You want me to do what with this?
I don't know where my problem stemmed from, but if I had to, I'm putting all my money on how I never really used coloring books. I had, like, 3 growing up and that was about it. So all that time wasted not coloring outside the lines of Daffy Duck so long ago has screwed me up so much that I can't even make a proper decision on how to color something.
showoff...
Never fear, that's why these days are here. So, let's get started and color something, huh?

To keep me interested, I've picked things to draw that.....interest me...yeah. So today, I'm leaning back on my folklore love and coloring the Green Man.
However, due to yesterday's freakishly long errand day, my mind is now elsewhere with this and this was the best I could do:

I chose to draw the disgorging Green Man because...well because I thought it was cool. But gross..... Yeah, I know. IT SUCKS. But I promise you something, I WILL go back to it and fix it up. I'm a bit busy on this end so this is all I can do today. Leave feedback for me please! I enjoy all of it!
Tommorrow: THE GREEN LANTERN!

Running Errands

So I just spent nearly my whole day running errands with my dad. I'm exhausted and, more importantly, I don't think there's enough time to finish today's drawing since I start them each day I have it assigned. Sorry guys, I'm really bummed out about this, but I'm going to have to push today back to tomorrow. I'll see you then. Don't worry, I'll have it all done by then.

Well This Is Kind of Random...

My mom while giving me items to draw suggested I do this one as well. A few months a go, my dad picked up a painting of a lighthouse from a garage sale and put it up in the house. My mom suggested I make a drawing of it or something like it, she likes lighthouses. This is only a one day thing so I took it up and added it to the calendar.
Since it's been a while since I've touched my traditional materials (well not really, been doing stuff behind the scenes) I said to myself, "Hey, why not use your pencils and stuff?" So I did. But then I got another idea to use my ink pens, seeing how I haven't used them in a good while and needed some practice with my grey ones.
So, I made myself a challenge and took it on. Yay or nay?

Sorry for the poor photo. I used my camera phone since our scanner currently hates me. Trust me, it looks better in person (or I may be lying to you). I currently use Faber Castell brand pens and they do a fantastic job. For this one I used my artist pen set and the shades of grey set of 6, 3 cool grey and 3 warm grey pens. I will be practicing grey scale for a while now on my free time. I really like how it turned out. I just wish I had a better camera at my disposal right now.
So there you have it, random lighthouse day. Tomorrow is going to be fun!! COLOR!

Look How Far We've Gone!

Hey! Hey! Lookit! Have a look at how far we've gotten. Actually, how far I've gotten. You haven't helped at all.

This is what's coming up for the blog. Oh yeah, you've got a lot more comin' your way. You're welcome:)

PSC: Day 9!

The Dog days are(about to be) over!! Today's the last day for the lil' puppies and I decided to end it with a breed of dog I will be using for a long time in my webcomic-work-in-progress. It is the Boston Terrier!
Hahahaha! Lookit! He's so funny!
In my comic, I decided my main character needed a companion so I chose a small dog that would provide some sort of comic relief to his life and the reader. Why the boston terrier to be specific? I dunno, it just popped into my head, probably because they have large, funny eyes. Well actually the main reason was I needed a breed that was black and white and my only other choice I thought of was a dalmatian, dalmatians suck.
Not surprisingly, so did this.
With all that said, the only logical choice was a boston terrier. It was small, had a good range of emotion I could portray with it (a good range meaning staring off into space and a smile), and a funny face. If I could ever love dogs as a pet again, I would probably get this dog. But I'm not saying I will. I'm just saying it's pretty high up on my list of "If I could have any pet, what would it be?" list, right next to the barn owl and a Velociraptor.
Jehovah's Witnesses beware.
Today's dog was SUPPOSED to be a cocker spaniel, but my blog, my rules, my practice time. Boston terrier it is!
The only hiccups I had were with the face. It's kinda pug-like in size and muzzle length, but it doesn't have wrinkles, per se. While I didn't spend three hours redoing it and crying (See "The Other Dog..." post), it still took me a while to get down. Still don't really have it, but I will.
 Here, have another:

DAWWWWWWWWW:) ISN'THESOCUTELOOKITHIM!!!!! Ahem......So anyway, I'd like you all to meet my creation:
To reiterate, Tug will be my main character's pet for my webcomic. Yes, he is googly-eyed. Yes, I did that on purpose. Yes, it IS hilarious. It's the little things in life. He will be appearing in the first issue (or possibly the second, he isn't important to the storyline then). Enjoy the little sneak preview. It's all you're getting for a while.

Oh what the heck:
Enjoy. It's kinda crappy practice.

For Your Convenience

So, I just wanted to tell you all I will be updating by a certain time each day to make it easier for reading. All PSC posts (Personal Summer Challenge) will be posted by 5:00 pm, my time. Everything else....eh, whenever I feel like it.
Stay tuned for more pictures! You'll love it:)

PSC: Day 8? That OTHER Dog...

My mom is the one who has given me all these things to draw so far and I thank her for helping me so much. That night when we we discussing possible subjects, we got to dogs, and I knew as soon as she picked that subject she would pick IT. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...the Chow Chow.
For some strange reason, and ridiculous name aside, my mom absolutely loves this dog. As the saying goes, only my mom could love this face. It's like a mix between an old man and fat Ewok...  neither which want to go on living (or saving the Empire for that matter).
LOOK AT IT!!
Other than their numerous rolls of ....fur? Fat? Skin? I dunno.....anyway, other than that and their mushed face appearance, Chow Chows are also identified by their purple tongues. It just gets better and better don't it? So, today, in honor of my mom's wishes, I went through with it and drew her a chow.
Finding good stock photos where they correctly showed the breed characteristics was actually waaaaaay harder than I thought  and took me hours last night using the site I normally use, but I finally got some good pictures.
...just.....LOOK AT IT!
Fist off, .....so many rolls..... I was constantly getting lost on where I was and had to keep changing my under-structure layer(layer -blue) because I just couldn't tell where anything was. I had to shrink the head, make it bigger, redo the face like a blillion times until I got it pretty close to the actual picture.
Pictured: Nearly 3 hours of torture. Thanks Mom.
I was finally able to get it down, lastly, the fur and the shading, were the easiest and best part of it. Still crying from the first one, I moved onto the second Chow Chow. It will get better. I have it down now!
Surprise! Same problems, same depression. This one was somehow HARDER than the first one. Yeah, HARDER. It's the faces.....those flabby faces. But you know what? I am sooooooo, incredibly glad that I'm done for today. YOU HEAR THAT CHOW CHOW?! I'M OVER YOU! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAA!!! I'M FREE!!! FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
Ahem.......so sorry. I'm just....I need some sleep....and a hug.....and a sandwich.
See you tomorrow.

Bonus Points!

Because I seemingly love you guys (I know, it's weird!) here's some more practice sketches:

Dog Days Are Here!

The next three days will be consisting of dogs. I have a comic in the works where my main character has a dog so I need the practice and also, man's best friend seemed like a natural stepping stone to bigger things.
Also would have accepted Man's best fart excuse, but it just doesn't have the same ring.
My family has pretty much always had a dog or dogs so I'm familiar with some of the shapes. There were only rare times where we didn't have a Rascal, or Pepper, or Major outside or inside, or, in other words very little times where we didn't take them with us everywhere via fur on our clothing.

Like you didn't already know.

Out of domestic animals, dogs are the best. If I ever had to choose a pet from a hamster, cat, or dog, I'd choose the dog. But I don't want a dog anymore. Sadly, I've recently come to the conclusion that I will never want to own a dog ever in my adult life. The details and facts are many and I will not disclose them with you in lieu of boring you.

It was mainly this. All over the floor.

Maybe I'll change my mind. As I know, it can change like the seasons. But until that time comes I'll stick to drawing them and looking at pictures. Anyways, lets get back on topic! Dogs, dogs,......right. Today we will start with an old staple of dog lovers: the beagle.
Beagles, similar to the Foxhound, are an old breed and they and their ancestors have been pictured and painted for ages since they were officially bred in the 1830s in Britain and before then. They track small game like rabbits and hares and are the ideal dog for families, scenting and animal testing as well.
There are actually two separate varieties recognized by the American Kennel Club in accordance to height. Beagles are actually more popular here than they are in the UK, where they were first bred.

 Famous beagles:
  • Snoopy
  • Shiloh
  • Odie (he's a beagle?)
  • HMS Beagle (the boat Darwin rode in)
  • That one dog from Cats & Dogs
All three above drawings were done in Pse. I tried different ways to start each one, such as using underlying shapes, lines, and just diving in and starting. The fun thing on all of them was the fur and trying to give it a, well "fuzzy" look. Next time I'll try to get some more poses, but the ones I liked were really limited. Until then, see you guys tomorrow!
